Jeff Stary is of Kaukauna, Wisconsin and is an award winning carver. He took 3rd place for working sturgeon category at the World Fish Decoys Championships in Livonia, Michigan in 2000. Jeff also carves ducks and his family has been carving and using decoys since the 1930s. Three generations of carvers range from ages of 15 to 58. Jeff has been carving for about 18 years starting around 1989.

“Our history of decoy carving dates back to my great-uncle Elmer Speerschneider who began carving in the 1930’s. Elmer, my grandfather, and my great-uncles used his decoys along with a large rig of factory decoys which eventually were all stolen. My dad Gary (1939- ) has been carving decoys since 1980. I began carving my first decoys in 1989. My son Mark (1991- ) and daughter Kristi (1988- ) have also done some carving and painting. We use our decoys on Lake Winnebago, Green Bay, the Fox River at Omro, Wisconsin and other areas. I am also an avid collector of Gust Nelow decoys.”
