From Gladwin, Michigan, Tony Hughes was born in 1985 and Tony says that “for as long as I can remember I have loved fishing and wood shop, well wood shop came later but you get the idea. I started carving in the fall of 2004. I was carving mostly fishing lures until I got better tools, then I went on to decorative fish carvings.

For Tony’s short experience he has been recognized for the quality of his decoys through the contest by winning the contest that he entered. Tony took First Place at the 2005 Saginaw Wildlife Carving contest with his decorative small-mouth bass and he also won First Place at the Gladwin Area Artist Guild’s 2005 Fall Art Show for his Brown Trout carving.

Seeing photos of his decoys will let you know why Tony wins when he does show.
I always like to hear that the young folk continue to carrying on the carving tradition.
