Clyde D Straw of Mt. Vernon, Indiana. Clyde was a barber on 3rd street in Mt. Vernon. He would carve lots of different folk art like duck heads, birds, signs and paddles.
He lived in Tanglewood in Mt. Vernon and died in Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 78.
He was a Class of 1949 graduate of Griffin High School. Clyde was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He was a barber in Mount Vernon for 50 years, operating Clyde’s Barber Shop. He was a member of Beulah Masonic Lodge No. 578 in Mount Vernon and Ducks Unlimited and was a founding member of the Posey County Woodcarvers. He was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed wood carving, fishing, golfing, watching sports and being active in the Democratic Party.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Wanda (Hanes) Straw of Mount Vernon; his daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Dr. Mark Siletchnik of Russellville, Ky.; his son and daughter-in-law, David and Sabrina Straw of Evansville; his three grandchildren, Dustin Siletchnik, Connor Straw and Faith Straw; and his great-grandson, Colin Siletchnik. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Olabelle and John Gouldman of Lady Lake, Fla., and his brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Odessa Straw of New Harmony, Ind.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins
