Miles Smith (1920 – )
Carver

Miles Smith was a busy Marine City, Michigan folk artist indeed!  The man did put out quite an output of products. It would seem that he had little time to sleep. You see his material popping up in various folk art collections and auctions. I think his work has wide appeal because of the appearance of his work.
His U-Shaped stamp marks his work and you will find it on all of his fish and duck decoys. You might call it his trademark feature.
Miles was a shipwright for Chris Craft  and Gar Woods. He worked along the St. Clair River where he developed a love of native wildlife. He for a long time made decoys for himself, but later recognized that others wanted his decoys. some of his decoys were very toothy with a tooth-filled smile on his muskie fish decoys.
