Kimberley Richards is from Cadillac, Michigan and happens to be the daughter of decoy carver and spear maker Tom Richards. She started painting decoys that her dad carved and then began making decoys on her own. She has won numerous awards for her decoys. She has been painting decoys for over 15 years, which is what she is best known for, and has been making them herself for over 5 years.

Kimberly’s Dad recalls that Kimberley has won a First place for working decoy and Second Best of Show for the Great Lakes Fish Decoy Association World Championship. For that same competition over the years she has won Second place in folk art decorative, First place miniature and Second Best of Show, and numerous other 2nd, 3rds and Honorable Mentions – too many for her Dad to recall. A lot of the fish were purchased by collectors with the ribbons and so it is hard to remember them all. The award part of the decoy making has never really mattered that much to Kim, she never really kept track. She loves creating decoys that other people enjoy and that is really means the most to her.
