Bill Kozak is from Endicott, New York and he started carving in 2000 and has sold over 100 decoys on eBay. He is 60 years old (as of 2008) and was born in around 1947.
Bill started carving after his wife saw a TV show on fish decoys. His carvings are hand painted then given a clear finish. Most carvings are from free or found wood and will be pine, oak, basswood or whatever.
He is a member of Great Lakes Fish Decoy Carvers and Collectors Association (GLFDA). Hew was one of the carvers featured in a traveling exhibit for the Vermont Folklife Center Center in Middleburry, Vermont and the Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Basin Harbor Vermont in 2002. As part of that exhibit he was also in the book “Lake Champlain Ice Spearing Decoy and Carvers by Bradford White. He has received a number of ribbons from the World Carving championships in Monroe Michigan held by the GLFDA.
