Andrew Gardner is from Bayonet Point, Florida and was born in December 1974.
He started carving fish at a very young age. Not for spearing but for the love of fishing and to try and duplicate for his trophy catch. Andrew wrote: “I began by watching my father, Charles D Gardner who has created hundreds of fish wood carvings. I became very interested in Fish decoys after reading the book, Beneath The Ice, by Ben Apfelbaum, Eli Gottlieg, and Steven J. Michaan.
That book inspired me to use my art background and love for fishing to create Melosh Fish Decoys. I like to think of my creations as works of art that are hung on a line instead of a wall.
I like to try and bring a realism look to each one of my decoys and you can see it in the eyes as well as the body. I like to call it the “Melosh Eye“.
Each Melosh Decoy is hand-carved from solid Basswood, painted with acrylics both by hand and by airbrush. Then coated with a protective finish for lasting durability and shine. Every Melosh Decoy comes in it’s own slide lid display box, also handcrafted by Melosh Lures.
