About the Artist (Excerpt from website)
I am a woodcarver living with my Brittney Spaniel in Central Vermont on the
family farm where I have been since my family moved here in 1959. Until 1986 I
grew vegetables and cut flowers for local farmers markets then I received a book
on decoy carving for Christmas. My first efforts at carving came out fairly good
and by that fall I was selling more carvings than vegetables and flowers.
From that point on every carving got better and better so that by 1989 I got my first
blue ribbon for one of my decoys in a regional carving show. At this point I was
carving full sized fully feathered decorative decoys. In 1991 I carved my first
fish and it came out so well that soon I was carving as many fish as ducks. The
next year I got an order from the Vermont dept. of Fish and Game for a series of
trout carvings of the different kinds of trout raised at the Ed Weed State fish
Hatchery in Grand Isle Vermont. The response to these carvings was so good that
in 1996 the Fish and Game Dept. ordered a series of all the popular game fish in
Vermont.
