Marcel Salive is of Potomac, Maryland and is a fish artifact collector and fish decoy carver. Marcel is the author of the book titled “Ice Fishing Spears”.

Marcel Leon Salive, Ph.D.
Marcel Leon (Skip) Salive, 82 died unexpectedly Friday, September 30, 2016 at his home in Rockville, MD. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jacquelyn Salive, three wonderful children, Marcel E. (Carolyn Pollard), Margaret Punch (Jeff), and Matthew; five grandchildren, Becky McHale, Allison Punch, Natalie Salive, Marie-Claire Salive, and Jeremy Punch; and a brother Laurence Salive (Donna) of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI. His brother Harold died in 2012 He was born in Detroit, MI on July 14, 1934, to the late Marcel A. Salive and Agnes I. Hess. He attended the University of Michigan where he earned B.S degrees in Chemical Engineering and Metallurgical Engineering and later earned his M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Metallurgical Engineering. He spent his entire career at what was then called the David Taylor Model Basin, where he was awarded the David W. Taylor Award.
He broke his neck at 16 in a gym class accident, walked with two canes for many years and then was in a wheelchair for the last 30 years of his life. Despite this he worked full-time until retirement in 1989, after which he collected ice fishing decoys and spears and wrote the book “Ice Fishing Spears”. He was also a master carver, especially adept at chip carving.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11AM at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 7730 Bradley Blvd., Bethesda, MD 20817, in the near future.
