Joe Hasselberg is from Motley, Minnesota and was born in 1952.
Joe wrote:
“I started carving decoys as a result of collecting old tackle and then decoys and it sort of evolved from that. My first few decoys were fashioned after patterns I found in a book about decoy carving and they changed as my style developed. All of my decoys have copper fins and a serial number preceded by the initials JH on one of the fins or the lead weight if the fins are too small. Almost all have had wooden tails and are finished with a polymer.”
Joe went on to say:
“I don’t really belong to any formal carving organizations but have been recognized with a few awards in the decoy world here in Minnesota. I presently do most of my carving in the lifelike fish categories with a few ducks thrown in for good measure and have won awards in Minnesota, Michigan, California and The World Carving Championships in Ocean City, Maryland.”
