I’ve always loved spearing pike. My wife started collecting fish decoys we met a carver at the Grayling Fish Hatchery. I thought I can do this and how neat it would be to spear a fish over a decoy I made. My first decoys were pretty crude. The following year I met Jim Wicks in Curtis, Michigan. He sold me a spare Fordum power carver he had and gave me some pointers. : I sign my decoys with my initials AS using a brand I made and I date them. I always yank test my decoys and make sure the swim or they don’t get finished. I use mostly cedar and buy it at various places. I mainly use an air brush, but do hand paint some of the details and use water-base and a two part epoxy clear coat. I belong to Michigan Darkhouse Angling Assn.
